Cyberpunk 2 – CD Projekt RED is already working on a new game, the project has moved to the production stage
The neon lights are on again in the gaming world. CD Projekt RED officially confirms that Cyberpunk 2, aka Project Orion, has already moved to the pre-production phase. This means that the conceptual stage is complete and the studio is slowly starting the actual development of the next game.
New information confirms that 96 developers are currently working on the project, who are distributed between the Boston, Vancouver and Warsaw offices. In a new Cyberpunk game, the main main location will still be Night City, although they say that a second location will also be added to the new game. This will be a new city, which the creators refer to as “Chicago gone wrong”. Perhaps this description is already enough for you to see a new, dark and chaotic world in your imagination.
Cyberpunk 2 is moving to a new technological level. CD Projekt RED is abandoning its own engine – REDengine – and is fully switching to Unreal Engine 5, which means better visual quality, more realistic physics and dynamic environments. According to the studio, this move will allow the team to better manage the large-scale open world and avoid the technical problems that Cyberpunk 2077 had when it launched. And they really did.
According to internal information, the final name of the game has not yet been decided. “Cyberpunk 2” is just an internal name that the team is temporarily using during the production process. The official name will of course be announced later, probably along with the presentation of the first teaser for the game.
CD Projekt RED is currently working on two major projects. These are Witcher 4 and Cyberpunk 2. The scale of the latter project is relatively small, which means that full production of Cyberpunk 2 may begin only after Witcher 4. Accordingly, no one expects the game to be released until 2030, although we may see the first official teasers much earlier. As we saw with the first part of the game/
Gamers are hoping that Cyberpunk 2 will fully live up to the expectations that were created around the previous game. CD Projekt RED has probably already learned from its mistakes. That is why now the goal is simple: to create a complete, optimized and emotionally filled world, saturated with gadgets, corporate intrigues and human stories.
Night City will return, but fans are waiting for new heroes, new threats and a completely different atmosphere. According to CD Projekt RED, Cyberpunk 2 will be darker, more personal and more dependent on the player’s choices than ever before.
At this point, the exact Cyberpunk 2 release date is unknown, but insiders say that the studio is aiming for the period between 2028 and 2030. Whatever the case, one thing is clear: Cyberpunk 2 is officially on the way, and it will be one of the most ambitious RPG projects of the new generation.
