Doom: The Dark Ages – A Blood-Drenched Medieval Boot
For those of you who have a Shield Saw in your heart and have even played Doom Eternal once – get ready, because Doomguy is back and this time he will take you to the Middle Ages, where you will have to walk on blood-soaked bones
What is Doom: The Dark Ages?
Doom: The Dark Ages is an upcoming FPS game that has not yet been officially released. The game is a prequel to the legendary Doom series, that is, the events take place even before Doom (2016) and Doom Eternal.
This time, our old friend Doom Slayer will find himself in a rather unusual environment — a dark, brutal, fantasy-filled medieval world, where technology and magic are intertwined. This time, your enemies will await you not on a space base, but in castles, temples and Gothic dungeons.
Story: Where did the Slayer story begin?
The game’s story tells the story of the origin of the Doom Slayer. The Dark Ages tries to figure out how a man or soldier turned into a legend who later did not even scare hell.
Gameplay: Old-school Doom with new weapons
As is customary for this legendary series, the gameplay is still fast-paced and continues the line of aggressive tactics.
The player will have access to medieval-style weapons such as a chain war hammer, crossbow, magic bombs – and of course, the familiar Shield Saw.
Platforms and Release Date
Doom: The Dark Ages will be released on PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5 on May 15, 2025.
Expectations and Comments
Fans are already eagerly awaiting the game, and Doom-themed forums are actively discussing its visual style, which seems to be some kind of magical synthesis between Dark Souls and Doom Eternal.
Some are worried about how the game will cope with the new style background, but what is already known is that id Software is working on the game, and this is already a great sign.
Previous Doom games — how did we get here?
- Doom (1993) – which revolutionized the FPS genre.
- Doom 3 (2004) – which leaned more towards the horror side.
- Doom (2016) – a reboot that brought us back to speed with a vengeance.
- Doom Eternal (2020) – a sequel that combined aggression, speed, and platforming.
Finally
Doom: The Dark Ages will not be just another shooter. It will be an origin story for the ancient Slayer, which will surely prove that a crossbow can be just as deadly as a plasma rifle.
Doom is back – and this time, it’s not Hell, but the Middle Ages themselves that will refuse to be saved.
